Research
Research of the Park’s natural values and cultural heritage is one of the principal activities of the Nothern Velebit National Park Public Institution. Systematic research activities began in 2002, the year of establishment of the Institution. About forty research projects have been carried out to date, most of which long-term in nature.
To a large extent, the past and current projects are focused on making an inventory or list of the Park’s natural values (individual plant, fungus and animal groups and habitats) and cultural assets. Also, research is conducted to illuminate the functioning of ecosystems and monitoring programs are being developed.

The role of the Institution is to promote, organize and support scientific and specialist research activities and to participate in their implementation. Research projects within the National Park are conducted by numerous collaborators and associates - scientific and specialist institutions, individuals and professional organizations.
Research activities are also a basis for planning management actions in the Park – zoning, protection and preservation measures, setting up of monitoring, visitor management, education etc.
More detailed information on research projects implemented so far can be obtained from the Park Management. Please send you inquiries to our expert staff.
